Q: Why do I need modulation?

A: The modulator for residential as well as for commercial applications. The use of modulator saves a need to run a new set of cables to every TV in a house/building. The modulator will take video signal as an input and will convert it to RF (antenna) signal, thus allowing every TV in the house to tune to that channel.
In residential application it will allow home resident to view his security video from any TV. In commercial applications (such as: gym, model, sport’s bar, etc…) it will allow to send the same channel to every TV without the need to place a
    digital box at every location.

Q: What type of modulators do you have?

A: We carry two types of modulators: Analog (SCFM) and Digital (SCDM) modulators. Our SCDM modulators can be either Standard Definition (SD-1, SD-2 and SD-4) or High Definition (HD-1) for different applications. Please visit our CCTV Modulation Archives page (http://logenex.com/portfolio-types/cctv-modulation) for more information about each modulator.

Q: Does it work with all cable providers?

A: The modulators were tested and verified with following cable providers: Rogers, Shaw and Cogeco. Using modulator with these cable providers will allow you to view security video through digital set-top digital box.
For all other providers, it is possible to view the output from modulator using our “by-pass” method. See “Install Application #2” in the SCFM manual. SCDM can be connected in the same way.

Q: What channels do I view the output from modulator on?

    A:
    Rogers users: Channels 988, 989, 990, and/or 991
    Cogeco users: Channel 398
Shaw users: Channel 398 for Vancouver and Vancouver Island
    Channel 716 for Edmonton
    Channel 777 for Hamilton
    Channel 776 for Winnipeg
Q: Does Digital Modulators require special TV if you use “by-pass” method?

A: Yes, the TV must have a digital tuner. However, at this time practically all flat screen TVs have digital tuner.

Q: If I have HD set-top box, do I require HD modulator?

A: No, the HD set-top box can show both HD and SD video. However, you will not be able to watch output from HD modulator through your SD box.

Q: How many T.Vs can one modulator operate?

A: In general, one modulator can operate as many TVs in residence as needed. However, signal amplifiers might be required to verify proper level of the generated signal for too many TVs. Typically a modulator can operate up to 5 TVs without a need for amplification.

Q: Can Digital Modulator be used in an Apartment Building (MDU)?

A: Yes. However, MDU installation would require power inverters, directional coupler and commercial deletion filter (Rogers only) installed by the cable provider.

Q: Can I use the same modulator for both satellite and cable provider in the same apartment building?

A: Yes, since both use coax cable distributions for their signals. However, the installation is different for both. . Please see installation diagram for satellite users (http://logenex.com/oldsite/downloads/avm/SatelliteInstallation.pdf) and modulator installation diagram for these connections (http://www.logenex.com/productpdf/scdm/scdm_install.pdf).

Q: What are resolutions that digital modulators can support?

A: SD modulator support only 480i (standard definition) resolution. HD modulator supports: 480i, 480p, 576i, 576p, 720p and 1080i. Please note that HD modulator do not support 1080p resolution due to limitation of the broadcasting systems.

Q: Can I use the modulator for digital signage?

A: Our digital modulators works well with digital signage players, NVR and DVR. The only restriction that is imposed that the output signal from the video source must meet allowed resolution. Due to by-law restrictions, any video source that uses HDMI connection between itself and modulator, must output un-encrypted HDMI signal.

Q: Does it work for Bell Fibe?

A: In single house that is pre-wired with coax cables, it is possible to use digital modulator using our “by-pass” method. See “Install Application #2” in the SCFM manual. SCDM can be connected in the same way. Unfortunately, due to nature of Bell Fibe connections, it is not possible to use our modulators in MDU environment.

Q: Does it work for Bell Satellite TV or any other satellite systems?

A: Yes. Please see installation diagram for satellite users (http://logenex.com/oldsite/downloads/avm/SatelliteInstallation.pdf). Please note for this installation any modulator (analog or digital) can be used.
